My Confession
DATE: 11 23 2008, 3:48 pm / MOOD: Other

As I began writing the BibleRhymes series, my life changed direction. I thought I would write a book or two, to help kids understand the Bible in a fun, easy way.

And next thing I knew I was writing blogs about God and answering prayer requests and going to schools to read to children.

And as each day passed by it felt like the Lord was trying to lean on me a little bit more. It seemed like He wanted me to give Him everything and keep producing more fun stories for kids and offering more of my thoughts to adults.

I felt He wanted me to invest all of my time and all of my money into BibleRhymes.

Why? He didn't bother explaining all the details...

But who am I to question Him? I didn't question, I just kept moving in the direciton that I thought I was supposed to be heading.

And it seems like He's reaching out to me all of the time. He's begging me to always think about Him and to treat everyone else with Him in mind.

So I figure, my faith is strong, I can help kids learn about God, and if I'm going to work for God then what can go wrong? I've got the most powerful boss in the universe right?

Then I printed my first book, BibleRhymes' Creation, and what happens when I'm taking it around to stores? I find out the printing company put some of the books together with pages in the wrong order. And I lost my patience a little bit. I looked up to the sky and said, "Where's my help?" And after a 100% quality sort on all of the remaining books, we moved on.

Then I printed my second book, BibleRhymes' Noah and the Ark. And what happens? The new printing company I worked with didn't follow the contract at all and they didn't produce the book the way I had ordered. And this meant that some books made crackling noises when you closed them. Other books have a page where staples are showing that shouldn't be.

And I lost my patience a little bit more. And I looked up to the Lord and demanded some help!

If I'm going to give Him EVERYTHING I have, can't He make things a little bit easier for me? Really...

Well, I guess even with doing BibleRhymes and thinking I'm growing more spiritual, I'm still as ignorant and impatient as ever.

Who am I to question God? Each time I feel that I'm tested or pushed with my back to the wall, I need to remember that question. I'm never in the position to question. I need to keep my faith. I need to move in the direction He pushes.

Because only He knows which way I should really go.

And how did I get slapped back into reality?

Well, even though book number two was printed incorrectly and it caused me months of delays and headaches and missed opportunities. The mistakes were a blessing in disguise. The mistakes have led to thousands of children getting an extra present for Christmas this year. A present that can help them get to know the Lord in a fun way.

Because when I was seeing minor blemishes in the quality of our books, God was seeing a way to give these books to children across the world.

And now I'm trying to pull my foot out of my mouth and apologize to the Lord for my lack of foresight.

I'll keep trying though.

And the next time I mess up and question Him again, I hope He'll keep forgiving.

All my thoughts to you,

kenneth w.

And since he can't thank you personally...

Here's thanks from the both of us!

I always appreciate the extra thoughts you guys are willing to share. And the people that you say prayers for or send support for, it touches them more than you realize.

A Real Halloween Treat
DATE: 10 30 2008, 5:29 pm / MOOD: In love

It seems that a large portion of the Christian population sees Halloween as a negative thing.

But if here in America we are to throw out this originally pagan holiday then we better get rid of our Easter Bunnies (which come from a 2nd century spring festival of fertility) and our Christmas trees as well. And if you wonder about the Christmas trees you can look in the Bible at Jeremiah 10: 1-4.

Yet people don't like throwing away their traditions, they never have. And that's why people of faith have absorbed old celebrations and put a twist on them. In doing this it made Christianity and Catholicism more palatable for the Pagans to adapt to.

Now if you look at Halloween in America and how it's practiced today, for the children, the pagan roots are all but forgotten. And for them it's a time for creativity to flourish, children to happily release their energy by yelling trick or treat as loud as they can and an opportunity for them to be taught first-hand one of the most important lessons in life.

Halloween can be used in one of the ways that Christmas is; to teach children the importance of giving and sharing.

Because for every little kid with their hand out tomorrow hoping for candy, there is a generous person that will be happy to fill their hand up. Not because it directly benefits them to hand out candy, but because they want to be a part of making it a fun and memorable night for the children.

And I know a pastor who will be coming by my house with his children tomorrow night. And I already know what he'll bring me. As I let his kids dig into my candy bowl, he'll be handing me a battery for my smoke detector and taped to that will be a verse from the Bible.

He's taking advantage of the night and using it as a way to share some of God's love with all of his neighbors. And the same can be true for all of us.

I don't know that Christians need to run from this celebration or be afraid of it in any way. I think if we're strong Christians we can continue to transform it into something that honors the Lord.

But hopefully we can keep it as happy and fun as it ever has been!

Yet if you can't accept this tradition and you're looking for alternatives, just call some of your local churches. It sure seems like plenty of them have activities lined up that sound a lot better than just walking around neighborhoods and yelling, "Trick or treat!"

But then don't go bobbing for apples ... that's a pagan tradition as well.

With all of my wishes for a positive night for the children...

Please Remember the Prayer Requests!
DATE: 10 27 2008, 4:11 pm / MOOD: In love

I mentioned a BibleRhymes Prayer Request page quite awhile ago.

And basically everyone that asks for requests prefers to keep them private. And I completely respect privacy and I will continue to devote my prayer time to anyone that makes a request of me.

Though I'll continue to suggest that the more eyes that see a particular prayer request will most assuredly lead to more hearts praying for the situation or individual in need.

And another person has reached out for prayers for her ailing father. And she's shared her request here: http://biblerhymes.com/prayer_requests.html

So please, if you have any time to give her some of your thoughts and prayers, she'd graciously appreciate it!

And if you have any prayers that you'd like sent your way, feel free to leave your own request and others will be happy to say some prayers for you.

Best wishes,

kenneth w.

What Good Can I Do Today?
DATE: 10 26 2008, 10:23 pm / MOOD: In love

If I could give the whole world homework, I would have everybody take home one question to answer.

But after they figured out the answer...

Then they'd have to be like Nike and "Just Do It."

The question for us all to answer is, "What good can I do today?"

Not what good can we do for ourselves, rather someone else. And if we're really thinking with our minds in the right place, it's not about doing good for someone who will then return the favor.

It's about going outside of ourselves completely. It's about wanting to do good for other people simply because we want to make their lives more enjoyable.

Now here's the bonus if you actually do that: your life will turn out heavenly!

I almost feel that I'm being self-centered each time I go to help somebody out. Because in the back of my mind I know that good feelings will wash over me like a nice, warm, ocean wave.

Think about it. It's like you get a free trip to the ocean just for being thoughtful.

And if you don't like the ocean, maybe you get a free trip to a bubble bath?

And if you want to feel what I'm talking about, go do your homework!

And ask yourself...

What good can I do today?

My thoughts for you,

kenneth w.
