WRITE IT DOWN AND LEAVE A LEGACY Write down for the coming generation what the Lord has done, so that people not yet born will praise Him. Psalm 102:18 GNT
Why has the Lord told us to tell others what HE has done? Why is it important to tell others? Why are we to write down what the Lord has done?
The first reason we should tell others is simply obedience, because the Lord told us to do it. The second like the first, is that we have been given the great commission to go and tell others in all the world. The third is that God would always be honored and receive all the glory for all that He has done and is doing in each of us. And last of all, but not least of all, we are to write it down!
The reason? So that when we are gone and no longer here others will be able to read and know this wonderful God that we serve.
You see, over and over again in the Bible, God has given us anointed men and women who wrote down all that the Lord had done and was doing in their lives. We are so blessed to have this to read whenever we want to.
As I was meditating on the verse above, I heard so clear in my spirit, "If you do not write it out, it is lost, and you leave nothing of God for others to see, read, or know." How sad is that?! Can you imagine that? Do you understand the significance of that? What we write down, lives on when we are gone! It lives on in the lives of every other person who reads it, then to those they pass it on to.
Think of how your life would be if you did not have the Word of God to read? Think of how your life would be if you never knew anything about what happened to anyone in the Bible. There would be no lessons learned that you could glean from. There would be no insights or revelations of the awesome heart of God for His people. There would be nothing that could give you direction or guidance.
There was a profound reason that God had them write it down! It was so that it could live on for all time, and so we could know!
Think of all the wonderful stories we have been given of God's great love for us! Can you imagine never hearing of or being able to read the story of how God gave His Only Son to come down in the flesh to give His life so we could spend all eternity with Him?
Can you imagine what it would be like to never have heard the story of such a profound and miraculous birth taking place in a simple manger where three kings came to bow and honor and present the Greatest King of All Kings gifts, while angels sang and rejoiced?
Can you imagine never hearing the story or being able to read how Jesus went to teach in the temples while yet still a young child? Can you imagine never knowing that healing was possible? Can you imagine how dark or terribly distraught our lives would be, not knowing about the Holy Spirit and the help He gives to us daily?
Can you imagine never hearing about how our Precious Lord was tempted in the wilderness for 40 days? We would never see how He can be compassionate and help us when we are tempted daily. We would never learn the lessons of how to fight the devil with His Words, and if no one had written them, we would never know how He did that or what Words to speak.
Can you imagine never hearing how our Precious Jesus fed 5000 with 2 loaves of bread and a few fish? Never being able to learn that what HE gives us and supplies us is always sufficient and will fill every need! What HE gives is always enough!
Can you imagine never hearing about the story of the Cross? Yes, it is the most painful story of all to hear, for we are the ones who put Him there, and HE went willingly and unashamedly and laid Himself on the Cross. The soldiers did not do this, He did. He went over and laid down upon it of His own free will.
Why? Love! Love for you and love for me! What if you had never heard that or could not read it? As painful as this story is, it leads to other stories. His defeating of hell and the grave. His taking back the keys of the Kingdom. His resurrection on the third day. His sitting at the right hand of the Father, interceding for you and me day in and day out, every day for all eternity. Can you imagine never hearing how the Church who is us, was built. Never knowing anything about His disciples and the many wonderful and valuable things He taught them for leading their lives, and the lives of others?
Can you imagine never hearing or being able to read His prayers, or how He prayed? What moved Him and what brought forth His righteous anger? We would be left without so much. You and I would not be able to lead the lives we do today, if we did not have these wonderful stories and lessons left to us.
We would never have heard or read about Noah. We would not know the meaning of a rainbow in the sky. We would not know about Abraham who was a friend of God, or David who was a man after God's heart. We would not know about Elijah and his passion and power in prayer, or how Enoch walked so closely with God that he never died, he simply walked into glory to be with God.
We would not know about Deborah who shows how a judge should be. We would not know about Esther and how her life affected her people, and stopped the enemy from bringing certain death to them. We would not know about the prophets of old. We would not know about Paul, and we would not know how God could take someone who hated all that God stood for, touch his heart, open his eyes, and cause this same man to bring many to saving grace and a saving knowledge of God.
Everywhere you look in the Bible, we have been given stories, written down by men being led by the Spirit of God. Why? So we would know Him. So we could have an intimate and personal relationship with Him. So that we could follow the examples He left for us to live a life that HE chose for us, one that is a life of victory.
God knew the vital need for us to know. HE knew how much it would help His children to be able to read and learn from these many wonderful stories. Both the good ones as well as the bad. We have been left with both, so that we could have a clear picture, a faithful and true picture of right and wrong. Without it there would be no balance. Without it we could be deceived.
And even today, we have mighty men and women of God who are leaving their legacy of what God has given them behind for everyone else. We have been given lessons and the Word from so many of God's children. Those who have gone on to be with the Lord, like Brother Kenneth Hagin (who was my spiritual father in the Lord), John G. Lake, Andrew Murray, Corrie Ten Boom, the list goes on and on and is too long to mention everyone. My point is this, all of these precious men and women who have gone on before us, left us a legacy of what God had given and imparted to them. Because they were obedient, because they understood the value of what they had been given, you and I have them too!
So once again, child of God, I encourage you to not take lightly this year, anything that the Lord gives you. Write it down, so that those who are left behind can reap from them, grow from them, and so that we can honor God with them. Not only will you be touching another's life, you will also be touching the very heart of God!
