1968
Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot and killed in Memphis, TN. Robert F. Kennedy, was assassinated in Los Angeles. Richard Nixon was elected President with running mate Spiro Agnew, making one of the most extraordinary political comebacks in U.S. history. Johnny Cash performed his famous concert at Folsom Prison in California. The 58th and final new episode of The Monkees airs on NBC. James Taylor and The Carpenters musical career’s began. Planet of the Apes, Romeo and Juliet and 2001: A Space Odyssey were among the top movies. Here's Lucy, 60 Minutes, and Hawaii Five-O premiered on CBS.
AND I WAS BORN!

I was born in Spruce Pine, NC with, unknown at the time, a mild form of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Little was known about that stuff back then but now researchers are on the edge of a breakthrough and maybe even a cure! My only brother, 10 years my senior, also has DMD. I have used a wheelchair since 1993.
Over the years I have had a few jobs, starting with cartography in 1986 - straight out of high school. Working and going to night school at the local community college was a challenge, but one I would do again. I always dreamed of being an architect and studied for it in high school and community college. But God had other plans for me and I continued my education at Mars Hill College in Business Administration. Work eventually changed (now doing mapping to determine flood plain areas) and school was put on hold for a while.
After 7 years at that job, the company sold out and I was unemployed. What better time to finish my schooling?
I enrolled in Church Administration through Dayspring University and Seminary and within the year had my bachelor's degree. During that time I headed the JESUS VIDEO PROJECT in Yancey County. With my degree in hand I now had the opportunity to apply for the job I have had for the past 5.5 years - working full-time as a county social worker in adult services in Burnsville. A job which I would have never known about had not a lady on the JVP committee told me about it. See how good God is! I got the job the week we moved back to Bakersville so I've been driving it every day.
Today I still live at home with my parents and have never married. A baptist preacher's son, most of my life I have lived in Bakersville, NC with the exception of some years in Rutherfordton, NC and Burnsville, NC. But now I'm back where things began.

Hey! I'm so sorry to hear about the relationship problems. That's rough. Self-employment...NOT! No longer selling Mary Kay other than trying to sell my inventory at cost. Too much trouble and time. I love my job and find it very challenging. Anywho, that's about it for that. Our church is coming along. They have the shell except for the windows and they'll get those put in next week, hopefully. Nothing much else. Well, let me go...ready for supper..left over Chinese. Take care and keep writing!

Hey! I haven't heard from you lately. I hope all is well with you. We're planning a vacation...hopefully in the next few weeks and will be making a trip your direction. We're planning to spend a couple of nights with my parents and go to Knoxville, TN for a day to see my aunt and uncle up there.

Have you got any vacation plans for the summer?

Hey, Chris! You're just running into a lot of people that have connections with you...that is too "kewl" as the youngun's say! I'm sooooo tired. I took a "mental health" day today and took my Barbie car to the VW place in Wilmington because the top refused to go down the other day. Well, they couldn't find a thing wrong with it. Eddie and I dropped it off and he went on to work. I decided to call in and take the day. I did some Mary Kay stuff and totally ejoyed my day of freedom! I have a feeling that I'll be doing Mary Kay full time before long. I'm down to 6 clients with my company and that just isn't good. I'm afraid they're going to let me go anytime. But God has his hand in all of this, so He's already got me covered!

Our church building is on the ground. They should start pouring concrete Monday! Check out our pics at www.truefaithbaptist.com! Sign our guestbook while you're there. Check out our history. We're really excited.

Well, let me go. I'm really tired and will probably hit the hay soon!

Take care!
Mary

Hey! I've been soooooo busy! I only planned on doing one Mary Kay party every 2 weeks and I'm doing 2-3 per week! It's been busy and I'm exhausted! Of course, making $550 in 2 days ain't bad! But it's very tiring. But I am still around. How is everyone in the mountains?

Hey...I'm not used to this laptop and the keys are closer together than what I'm used to and I somehow hit the wrong key and closed out...I came back and you left. Wanna try again? I've gotta slow down with my fingers and remember to not reach so far sometimes...

I like the info about yourself. So you were born at the same place I was. Cool! I don't think I've met anyone that was born where I was. I've had a really busy week. I had a Mary Kay party here at the house last night and tonight, we're celebrating my son's 16th birthday. He'll be 16 tomorrow, but I figured we'd celebrate it tonight. I've had allergy symptoms hit full force today. It's a good thing that I had planned to take the day off today. I've had a sore throat, headache, just overall yucky feeling, but it'll be ok. Eddie's been out on woods fires down in Pender County, where he's Director of Emergency Management. I've just signed my agreement to become a Mary Kay Consultant, so we'll see how that goes. I figured in the ever changing world of Mental Health, I might need a back up plan, just in case. I decided that if anything happened to the company that I worked for, I'd get out of social work for a while and do something totally different. I love to do make up and help people feel good about themselves, so that would be a nice change. Who knows, I might decide I like it so much that I quit my job...naw...I love my job! Well, I'm expecting people soon, so I'd better go. Take care and have a wonderful weekend. Oh, check out our pics on www.truefaithbaptist.com. Our Easter Egg hunt is on there. See if you can pick me out of all those pics...I'm actually not in too many. I'll give you a hint...go to scrapboook, look on March 2008 and click on the Easter Egg hunt under the sunrise service.  I'm in a green sweater with my hair in a pony tail.  There's a baby's pic right after mine.  My daughter is in several.  She's wearing a green striped shirt, has really long hair, and glasses.  She's in the swing with my best friend's hubby next to her.  There are a couple of me at the piano that are not of the egg hunt, but you can check it out. You can also check out our short, but God-filled history as a new church. It's been so exciting! Well, let me run. Folks should start arriving soon. TTYL! Mary

Hey...looks like you're online. I saw that it looked like you were in the chat room on here, but I've not figured that out, yet...I get too confused, especially if you can type faster than I can get a question out...LOL! I have a friend who can type like 79 words a minute...or something like that. I get my fingers ahead of my brain and end up typing gibberish...LOL! How's the weather up in the mountains?
